FAQs
Are all of these possum merino?
Not all. Alongside the possum merino ribbed, striped, health and slipper socks, there are Australian-made merino socks, alpaca bed socks and a thick wool boot sock for the coldest days.
Why are they dearer than an ordinary pair of socks?
You're paying for the fibre: warm, soft, breathable and naturally slow to hold odour. Customers tell us a good pair lasts winter after winter, which is where the value is.
What colours do they come in?
The ribbed possum merino socks come in a wide range of colours, well beyond the usual black, grey and natural, and many match the possum merino gloves.
Are the possums harmed?
It's the question we're asked most in the shop, and a fair one. These are New Zealand brushtail possums, not our protected Australian possums. In New Zealand they were introduced, have no natural predators and are controlled to protect the native forest and birdlife. The fibre comes from that control work; possums aren't farmed for it. We know that isn't easy reading if you love possums, so we'd rather say it plainly.
